The F40 presented in 1987 at the Fiorano circuit was built to celebrate Ferrari's 40th anniversary. Hence the designation F40 with Ferrari's "F" and "40" to celebrate the fortieth anniversary of car production. Designed by Pininfarina and mainly composed of composite materials, it is a very fast berlinette.

At the time of its release, it is the most powerful, and expensive car in the history of the automobile. Its profile and characteristics allow it to perform close to a racing car, but it is still a road vehicle that can be used for escapement.

The F40 is the last Ferrari presented by Enzo Ferrari before his death in August 1988.
